Visor: An Exciting New XR Headset From Immersed

Immersed, the remote work startup, has just unveiled their next-gen XR headset, the Immersed Visor. And boy, it's not just another headset on the block. It's a whole new ball game!

Designed with the future of work in mind, the Immersed Visor boasts a 100-degree field of view, dual 4K resolution, is “25% lighter than a smartphone”, and has an HD color passthrough that's "higher resolution than what's available on the market."

It will support Windows, Mac, and Linux laptops and computers, and can deliver five or more virtual screens in a compact headset. That’s so cool. I’ll now be able to see all the coins in my crypto portfolio crashing to zero at the exact same time!

The bad news is that it isn’t going to be cheap and they’re targeted at enterprise users. Immersed hasn’t announced pricing yet, however, pre-orders are said to arrive at some point later this year.

Meta Will Launch Quest 3 At Meta Connect

Meta has officially announced the date for their upcoming Meta Connect event — September 27. The Quest 3 is likely one of the biggest anticipated releases for the event. So just a month and a half’s wait to get the potentially best-selling VR headset of the next 2 years.

Next up, we've got some juicy details about the new Touch Plus controllers. They've just received FCC approval, and it looks like they're sticking with the tried-and-true one AA battery setup. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right?

But the real icing on the cake is the news that the Quest 3 will support 6GHz Wi-Fi. This means faster data transfer, smoother gameplay, and more immersive VR experiences. Just make sure your router is up to the task!

The 3D Cartel: Apple, NVIDIA, Adobe, PIXAR & Others Join Hands

In an exciting development, Apple, Pixar, Adobe, Autodesk, and NVIDIA have come together to form the Alliance for OpenUSD (AOUSD). Their goal? To promote the standardization and development of a 3D file protocol that could be the key to unlocking the next generation of AR experiences.

Think of it as the HTML of the AR world. This protocol allows for the description of complex virtual scenes that can be retrieved and rendered on a local machine. It's a groundbreaking approach that has the potential to revolutionize how we interact with AR.

But what does this mean for us, the end users? In a nutshell, it could lead to more immersive, realistic, and mind-blowing AR experiences. With Apple's VP of the Vision Products Group stating that the OpenUSD initiative will "accelerate the next generation of AR experiences," it's clear that we're on the cusp of a major leap forward in AR technology.

Burning Calories While Shooting Zombies

Virtuix, the innovative company behind the Omni VR treadmill, has announced a successful crowd investment round, raising a substantial $4.7 million. The Austin, Texas-based company has set ambitious plans to ship 1,000 units of its groundbreaking Omni One VR treadmills by the end of the year.

The Omni One VR treadmill is a unique product that revolutionizes the way users interact with virtual reality. When paired with a VR headset, it allows users to physically run around in a VR game, eliminating the need for artificial locomotion schemes like stick movement or teleportation. The treadmill requires users to wear special low-friction shoes and strap into a harness system, which keeps them in the center of the base's parabola, providing a safe and immersive VR experience.

Flicking paper should also be immersive

Have a great weekend folks.

What are your weekend plans? Me? You know, I’m just going to work on some upcoming additions for the newsletter and binge-watch the last season of Succession. So, who do you think inherits the media empire? I have some guesses. Since it’s HBO, it’s probably going to be Bran the Broken. (Some GoT reference for ya.)
